I think part of the joy of the down-to-earth fantasy is description of a skilled worker of any kind, doing what he/she knows thoroughly. It's kind of nice to think that hand-dyers and spinners are still doing some of the same things people have been doing since the middle ages! (Have you read The Wool-Pack, btw? Not fantasy, but fabulously detailed children's historical.)

And you were part of the [info]sartorias-centred chain which led me to read Point of Honour (via Lace and Blade and Goodreads) - maybe you should give it a try too. :)
