So Many Books... - May 31st, 2009

05:44 pm - 48 Hour's Reading Ahead
Yes, it's MotherReader's fourth (count 'em!) Annual 48 Hour Book Challenge time. I've been signed up and squirreling away books for a while now, though I've caved on a few of those I'd planned to save for next weekend already.
For once, no exams happening just after! Poor Younger Daughter is suffering under a full three weeks' worth atm - what you expect for Leaving Cert, but not first year of uni - and made worse by the unrelenting loveliness of the weather the last few days. No fair! Her last one is Friday morning though.
Back to the Challenge; I have Rebecca Stead's First Light, the first Monster Blood Tattoo book, The Demon's Lexicon (Sarah Rees Brennan is Irish - how did I miss that?) and Diana Wynne Jones' The Game. (Yeah, yeah, but an even bigger confession than not having read the last of those is that I read about the first quarter of House of Many Ways and wasn't pushed enough to borrow it from
steepholm so I could finish it.) Don't know about others - I never manage anything like as much as some challengees, but should need more... Might try to pick up one of the Diary of a Wimpy Kids - or I might beg Mortal Engines from Becca, as that's been a Must Read this book for years now... Any recs gladly received (though it would have to be a book available in Ireland/UK at this point). (Unless someone reading this has an ARC they're willing to share! Like Hilary McKay's Wishing for Tomorrow, AKA Wishing Impatiently for 3rd of September.)
It will be good (fingers crossed, of course) to be forced to write the books up immediately on reading them. Haven't been doing at all well lately, and I've been meaning to write up the second Sasharia en Garde (very satisfying!), Silver Phoenix (few quibbles, very much enjoyed still) and more for what seems like ages.
